I merely caused an old A5. It hasn't been thuroughly cleaned in probably 30 years. Its been wiped down and oiled and the barrel is make clean only the action is sluggish. I've got no problem getting the barrel off and cleaning around the magazine, only I'k afraid to try and effigy out getting the commodities out.

Does anyone take any instructions on how to give it a good cleaning? One link I have read says that yous demand to accept it to a gun smith for cleaning... I detect that difficult to believe.

Its not something that is too hard with the right tools. The nearly important part is to use correct fitting screwdrivers so the screws dont bugger up.

Cant aid on the instructions, yous may tru PM'ing OrphanedCowboy, he has some good ones.

Have off the butt, forearm, leap, friction rings.

Replace mag cap.

Lay out some newspapers, mag cap on the paper, buttstock elevated, lesser of the action pointing upwardly - now start spraying it out with a expert cleaner and permit information technology run out the front end of the receiver.

Work the action a dozen times and let information technology rest for 10 minutes.

Repeat above.

That should become it back in action.

Yes!

THIS is my fave prepare.

You will too need roll pin punches to drop the bolt and remove various pins.

The task is not THAT hard, but it is very involved. Commencement with a very clean piece of work space as at that place are many, many little pieces. Helps if you take some other one that is non broken down to compare with the first couple of times.

HERE is your basic manual.

Other than an occassional unanticipated bathroom in....uh....fresh water....mine has seen 40 years of never having been disassembled further than normal field stripping.

I do remember blowing information technology out with air in the early 70's and also did a couple of fresh h2o rinses back so also. Lakes seem as effective as streams in rinsing out the gun.

Anyway, like somebody said, have the butt off, spray the activity good and work the action and leave the gun stock up for a bit if you yet have forest stocks on it to make sure that whatever gunk/solvent doesn't settle into the stock.

Guaranteed, information technology will run similar new.

Boom-

don't screw around with that gun.

regular screwdrivers will cornbred information technology up big time. information technology takes a special shape screwdriver to fit gun screws.

go to the Brownell'south website. http://www.brownells.com/

gild some gun spiral drivers to fit the A-5. a set is adequately cheap.

this is the set i use. convenient, inexpensive, and works skilful for me.

y'all'll as well need to special long wrench to achieve down inside the buttstock to remove a nut there before you can remove the buttstock. that wrench is a separate particular.

it's time- consuming but not really difficult to detail-strip and make clean an a-five. you need to really spotter what yous're doing to get all the parts back in the correct order. see if you can't find a parts diagram on the web before disassembly.

it'south rare that an A-five needs a item-strip and clean. ordinarily all that needs cleaning is simply the outside and the forepart finish- mag tube and friction rings/bound. i particular mine every 2-3 years or so, whether or non it needs it.

don't over-oil/lubricate the internal workings.

ps- the "down and dingy" style to clean an A-5 is to take it to your local service station, grab the diesel fuel hose, and run it downwardly the barrel. flood/launder out the barrel and action with diesel. however........ that diesel oil tin can be crude on wood stocks- softend the fuinish and wood, so i wouldn[t practice that if you had a ameliorate alternative.

Heck, restriction cleaner is alot easier for but the internals and tin be done at habitation.
